Dear The Internet,
So, it's been a couple months since I last posted something. Oops. I guess I'm a little surprised at how much time it takes to put up a quality post and how rare that time is. I can't really think of anything to post right now either, which can't help. I'm feeling sort of creatively constipated and I'm hoping that I can get things moving again by writing a bit. I really want to get out and shoot some photos, but these winter months make daylight a much desired commodity. It also doesn't help that I've been exercising more, which is a huge time eater.
Since it's the new year-ish I figure I'll write out some of my resolutions. I kind of don't believe in New Year's Resolutions because I think that if you want to change something, you should start as soon as you get that desire. January 1st isn't magic and most people don't keep their resolutions. If you really want to do something, you don't need to wait for a new calendar year. With that in mind, here are some things that I hope to change this coming year:
- Get back in shape: I feel like this is the most common resolution and the most frequently broken. I have a bit of back story though. I used to weigh close to 215 lbs. until I lost 30 lbs. a few years ago. I was in decent shape and kept the weight off until I started dating my super awesome girlfriend. I started eating out more and exercising less. After a few months I was back up to 200 lbs. My goal is to get down to 180 (my BMI for "normal", which is ridiculous) but we'll see how that goes.
- Stop being such a doormat: I was talking about this with my super awesome girlfriend the other day. I'm very non-confrontational and people tend to mistake that for apathy or passivity. I also tend to internalize things, so this leads to me letting people walk all over me and them having no idea how I feel. Anyway, it's not healthy and it's something I can work on.
- Get my finances in order: I've had a steady job for the last year and a half, but for the first two years after I graduated college I worked two seasonal jobs and filled in the gaps with temp work. I got by, but with a little help from my friend Visa. I'm still paying that stuff off and it's slow going. I got a second job to help expedite things, but I still have a long way to go.
- Take more pictures/write more: The truth of the matter is that what I do for a living is not what I love. I don't mind it, but I need to supplement my job with things that engage my heart. I love writing and I love photography so it makes sense to use these things to keep my spirit active.
- Get through more of "The List": A few years ago I started refering to movies that I hadn't seen but wanted to as being "on my list". About a year ago I wrote out a list of 100 or so classic movies that I wanted to see and vowed to see them all in a year. Of those 100, I saw maybe three. I know I wont see them all, but I'm gonig to try and cross off a few more titles. It doesn't help that I keep adding to it.
